About

Nine Barrow Press is an independent publishing imprint based in Dorset, inspired by the landscape of the Isle of Purbeck and the ancient ridge of Nine Barrow Down.

Founded by writer and pianist Frances Wilson (AKA The Cross-Eyed Pianist) Nine Barrow Press publishes writing shaped by a strong sense of place and an enduring interest in music, creativity and the lives of artists.

Its first publication is Facing the Music, a novel of music and friendship, love and war, following two young musicians whose promising careers are interrupted by the First World War.

At the heart of the novel is a question that reaches far beyond its historical setting: what happens when circumstances beyond our control disrupt the path we thought we were following and challenge our sense of who we are?

Nine Barrow Press takes its name from a distinctive part of the Dorset landscape which features in Facing the Music – a landscape of chalk downs, sea and open skies that offers its characters sanctuary, continuity and a sense of home.
